This is one of the children I'm painting for my "Moni's Kids" Project. All proceeds will go back to the children portrayed in this series. To learn more about this project, please click here or you may follow the progress of this series on my blog here.
About Marantha: Maranatha is 14 years old and came to us from Gonaïves in 2004 after hurricane Jeanne destroyed her family's home. She was in good health when she came to NLCH, but her parents had no work, so they could not afford to take care of Maranatha or send her to school. She likes playing basketball and wants to be a nurse. As with Fabienne, I chose the background color following an inner voice only to learn later that I picked her favorite color pink! I took several photos of her smiling brightly, but this intense look on her face just captivated me and I had to paint it. Birthday: Nov. 17, 1998
